Thorn
Nargana Thorizas
Th-orn Nar-gar-na Th-or-iz-ar
The name Thorn is used for a celtic rune of the same name.
It is a rune that is used for getting rid of a problem. An alternate
name for this rune is Thurizas, which is where Thorizas
was taken from. Nargana is an odd combination of the latin
natu, meaning birth, and genero, meaning to create. It is also the
name of the type of spines that grow on Thornada's tentacles.
Ares
Ar-res
Ares is the name of the ancient Greek god of war, which
is quite a fitting moniker for the first Dark Angel of Hell, don't
you think?
Cecily
'Red' Chrissolm
Seh-silly Red Kris-solm
Both Cecily and Chrissolm are nice, ordinary names
I just happen to like a lot. Red's character adopted her
nickname Red rather than use her normal name, and gained
it because of her bright red hair colouring.
Scorn
D'argent
S-corn Dar-jon
Scorn means malice, which is ironic, considering Scorn's
carefree nature. D'argent is French for silver, which is
both a reference to her aristocratic past, her French background
and her long silver hair.
Tethys
and Dione Thorizas
Teh-this Die-own
Both Tethys and Dione are names of Saturn's moons.
Thorizas is explained elsewhere.
Thornada
Thorn-arda
The 'Thorn' part of Thornada clearly comes from the
character 'Thorn'. 'Ada', is a variation of 'harder'. Thornada as
a whole, also sounds a little like tornado, which has destructive,
uncontrollable power very similar to Thornada.
Allen
Foehn
Al-en Fay-n
Allen is an ordinary name. Foehn is a type of warm,
strong, down-slope wind. It does not have much connection to Allen,
really. I just liked the word.
Adrienne
Tonnerre
Ay-dree-en Ton-air
Adrienne is a song by The Calling that I named her
after. Tonnerre is a bit of a no-brainer, as it is the French
word for thunder. She's a Lightning Spirit, so thunder
lightning.
Yeah.
Laurenza
Windsong Rendemal
Lauren-za Wind-song Rarn-der-marl
Laurenza is simply my name +za. See, there's really nothing
to these names. Windsong
I don't know. I put two words
together that sounded good. Rendemal is a little more complicated,
it's a misspelling of three French words: règne de mal,
meaning 'reign of evil.' She's the Dark Queen, so that's pretty
appropriate. I dropped a few letters and the accent so it was easier
on the tongue.
Li
Ryong Rendemal
Lee Ree-ong Rarn-der-marl
Li is an abbreviation of my brother's name. Ryong
is Chinese, meaning 'dragon.' I think. Don't quote me on that. I've
already covered the last name.
Lierlo
Gabriel D'lor
Lee-air-low Ga-bri-el Der-loar
Lierlo I think was the result of the random placement of
vowels and consonants together. Woo. Gabriel of course is
a real name and the name of an Archangel, but that doesn't really
have much relevance. D'lor is another one of my famous French
misspellings, from de l'or, meaning 'of gold.' Gold is the
Luneblanche forehead symbol colour
so again, very unimaginative
naming. I moved the apostrophe and dropped the 'e' because I could.
Apathy
Ververte
A-path-ee Vair-vair-tay
As Thorn quite rightly said, Apathy means to not care.
It sort of fits Lierlo's Cielnoir side because he
doesn't seem to care much, well, not about the well-being of others
or the castle at least. Ververte is once again a misspelling
from the wonderful language of French, ver vert meaning 'green
worm.' Green worm
snake
Cywyrm. See, it's really
obvious once you know.
Siun
D'lor
See-un Der-loar
Siun is the crowning glory of unimaginative names, well,
next to Laurenza
He's a Fire Spirit, so his name is
Sun + an 'i.' Heh. I've already covered the last name.
Kujata
Alexander Greyfare
Koo-jar-ta Al-ecks-ander Gray-fair
Kujata as you may have read a million times elsewhere on
the website is a giant bull monster from mythology. Why not name
a character after it? Alexander is my brother's middle name
and Greyfare is just two words I put together to make a nice-sounding
last name.
Vixen
Gospel
Vicks-en Gos-pell
A close contender for most unimaginative name, as Vixen is
a vixen, a female fox. Gospel because of the holy connections
as she is a White Mage.
Cielnoir
See-el-noir
Simple French this one, ciel noir, meaning 'black
sky.'
Luneblanche
Lunar-blanche
I think this one's a French misspelling too. I have a feeling lune
(meaning 'moon') is masculine, but blanche (meaning 'white)
is feminine. I just thought Luneblanche sounded better than
Luneblanc.
Kitzie
Malone
Kit-zee Ma-lone
I should thank the French language for a lot of my names. I found
Kitzie's name in a French textbook. Malone is just
an ordinary name.
Lahrne
Arei Thorizas
Lah-n Are-ay Thor-is-are
This one is great. I had my name stuck on my tech folder from cut
out magazine letters. From rearranging them, we made the names 'Lahrne
Arei.' Thorizas is explained elsewhere.
Faunus
Four-nus
I can't really remember this one. I think Faunus is a god
of forests in some ancient language
Latin, maybe? What I do
remember is I wanted to call him Morpheus, after the god
of dreams, but I'll be damned if make connections between this and
The Matrix. Originally, this guy was going to be called Aruun,
but if you're familiar with AS you'll know I used the name elsewhere.
Galesse
Gal-ess
Believe it or not, Galesse's name is derived from the word
'grace.' She's a holy woman, so grace is a good word to relate her
to.
Jadarthfeyr
Sayemond
Jad-arth-fare Say-eh-mond
This bizarre name was a joint effort between the two of us. At 3am
in the morning. No wonder it came out so weird.
