*The scene switches to the castle roof. The castle walls are constantly shining now, even without the boy's intervention. Small fragments of the castle's structure are splintering away. Kuja is up there, examining this strangeness in action.*
Kuja: What's going on here then? *Touches one of the turrets and it begins to crumble in his fingers.* Hasn't the castle fallen apart enough times?
*He walks to the edge and gazes out at the lake below, irresistibly reminded of the time Laurenza stood in the same spot, reciting his poem.*
Kuja: I wonder… Can the damage being done to the castle be linked to the random singing we're experiencing?
*At that moment, a slow and haunting melody played on guitar and violins starts up.*
Kuja: Oh hell, I suppose it's my turn to start with the ridiculous singing now…
*The sky darkens and a single bright star twinkles above him. As a light breeze ruffles his hair and clothes, Kuja begins to sing*
Kuja: A shadow on a page, the chapter ends
The winds surround me
A change in destiny
I see a new star, diamond in the velvet sky
What does it behold?
A secret untold
The gleam leads me to go
To where, I long to know.
*The shining image of a golden door appears in the distance. It seems to get closer and closer as Kuja progresses through the chorus. He holds a glowing key forged of light in his hand.*
Kuja: I turn the final pages, the last notes of a song
I have the key now, maybe, but the lock's all wrong
Beyond the great horizon, there's a path carved out of light
But I can't see it fading, the darkness blocks my sight.
*The illusion of the door is replaced with the towering form of Paige's fortress. A cloaked figure, riding a black horse, can be made out far below.*
Kuja: His fingers on your skin, I turn to stone
A flame rekindled
My reason has dwindled
I only see red; the world's been flipped upside down
The malice grips me
I need setting free
That accursed event
A sin I must repent.
*Kuja throws Magick at the fortress and it shatters away like glass. The golden door sequence is repeated for the second chorus, but this time Kuja gets close enough to try the key in the lock. It does not open.*
Kuja: I turn the final pages, the last notes of a song
I have the key now, maybe, but the lock's all wrong
Beyond the great horizon, there's a path carved out of light
But I can't see it fading, the darkness blocks my sight.
*Kuja crosses to the turret with the engraving of a heart and the letters 'K & T' in it. He runs his hand down it and a translucent picture of Thorn is seen in the sky.*
Kuja: A feather touches me, the dream is gone
The tainted colours
Fantasy seems duller
Sensations come to me, fires burn in my heart
Our souls entwining
A love now climbing
Lives lost and blood was spilled
A love so unfilled.
*For the final time, the golden door appears, but this time it is wide open. Kuja runs through it down a shining path, towards the image of Thorn.*
Kuja: I turn the final pages, the last notes of a song
I need no key now, it seems, open all along
Beyond the great horizon, there's a path carved out of light
And I can see it shining, it's gonna be all right.
*The song comes to as close as Kuja reaches Thorn. The moment he locks his arms around him, the whole place returns to normal.*
*Kuja looks thoroughly annoyed and shouts towards the castle.*
Kuja: Yeah thanks, whoever's behind this! The next time I want to spill my innermost feelings in some kind of heartfelt song, I'll ask!
*Kuja returns inside and meets with Kitzie, Lahrne, Laurenza, Red and Ares. They are discussing the strange singing.*
Kitzie: What's this funny singing about?
Kuja: That's what I'd like to know. It just happened to me. So, has everyone here has either had it happen or have seen it happen?
Laurenza: Not me nor Red.
Kuja: Be prepared. It takes you by surprise and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
Ares: It's true. I was there when Rin burst into song.
Lahrne: Why's it happening?
Laurenza: I honestly don't know. We've seen some weird stuff in our time, but music and song coming out of nowhere? This takes the cake.
Red: And eats it, too.
Kuja: Someone has to be toying with us. Have you noticed the castle walls lately? *He gestures to the glowing, crumbling structure of the castle.* Could this be related?
Laurenza: It's possible. It'd be too much of a coincidence otherwise, I guess.
Red: *Nods.* Could someone have enchanted the castle to make people in it sing? And if so, why?
Kuja: That's what we need to find out.
*A jaunty tune on an electric organ starts playing.*
Red: Oh god.
Ares: I feel something coming!
*The room becomes a stage. Ares and Red are stood in the spotlight, in front of two microphones. The others start dancing behind them and providing backing vocals.*
Ares: Oh no, this thing has got me too
Red: How odd it feels to sing like this
Ares: I'm not sure what we're gonna do
Red: It's something I know I won't miss.
*Members of the audience leap on the stage and start attacking Red and Ares. They fend them off with bullets and misty punches, as they plunge into the chorus.*
Red: I hope this strangeness does not linger
Ares: I've never been that good a singer
Red: Not a diva, but a gunslinger
Ares: I wish I were more help but I'm at sea.
*They pair up with the other members of the gang and begin dancing closely, twirling around the stage.*
Red: At this moment I feel so lost
Ares: As if it wasn't bad enough
Red: I'm not a girl that should be crossed
Ares: This problem seems kinda tough.
*Red and Ares do a stage dive into the crowd. They are passed around like idols, the crowd cheering all the time, as they sing the chorus again.*
Ares: This trouble makes me feel like grieving
Red: This awful singing must start leaving
Ares: It's almost just beyond believing
Red: Whoever did this to us will soon pay.
*The two of them return to the stage, leaning close to their microphones. The lights dim down low, so only the spotlights remain. The music mellows as well, leaving only the chords playing on the organ.*
Red: That's it! I've had all I can stand
Ares: I think I must agree with you
Red: What vile deeds do they have planned?
Ares: That involves songs? I have no clue.
*The music swells and the lights brighten once more.*
Red: I hope this strangeness does not linger
Ares: I've never been that good a singer
Red: Not a diva, but a gunslinger
R & A: This whole weird situation is not fun
It's time this stupid thing was over and done
Won't someone please tell us what's going on?
*The castle appears around them once more as the song ends.*
Red: Well, scratch me off the list of people it hadn't happened to…
Ares: And me.
Laurenza: This is really getting out of hand now.
Red: I agree. We need to get to the bottom of this.
Kuja: Let's gather up the others and see if we can solve this mystery.
*They go off to round up the rest of the gang.*
*Thorn, Rin and Tifanel are back in the training hall. Tifanel is blowing off some steam by striking a training dummy with his sword. His attacks are graceful, agile and accurate as usual.*
Rin: The fishing was an unfortunate failure...
Thorn: It's a pity really. I bet Tif could've come to like it if he'd actually caught something.
Tifanel: No way. You'll never convince me it's anything other than boring. *Sighs.* What am I gonna do?
Rin: It seems you'll just have to try something else Chiara likes.
Tifanel: Like what?
Rin: Dancing.
Thorn: You're very agile, Tif. I bet you could dance well if you tried.
Rin: I agree with Thorn. Your sword skills are quite dance-like in themselves. You learn to dance properly and you'll be able to show my fair daughter you can do something she likes.
Tifanel: Uh... I dunno about this, but okay.
Thorn: It's worth a try, at least. I mean, now you can say 'I don't like fishing' having actually experienced it.
Tifanel: Yeah, that's true. I better find someone to practice with, then.
*The three of them head out of the training hall and meet up with the others. The whole gang are now gathered in the Main Chamber. Tifanel beckons Chiara over to one side.*
Tifanel: Hey Chi...
Chiara: Hmph. *Folds her arms and looks away from him.*
Tifanel: Don't be like that. I'm gonna make it all up to you, just you wait.
Chiara: If you say so. *Joins the others again.*
Tifanel: *To himself.* Well, I hope I am, anyway. *Goes to Red and speaks to her quietly.* Hey Red?
Red: Tifanel. What is it?
Tifanel: Can you help me with something?
Red: Depends entirely on what it is.
Tifanel: I need to learn to dance, so I need a partner to practice with.
Red: Oh, okay then.
Tifanel: Heh, I didn't expect you to agree so easily.
Red: Well, I suppose I might as well. But if you step on my foot...
Tifanel: I'll be careful. C'mon, let's go. *Leaves the hall.*
Red: *Goes with him.*
Kuja: Where do they think they're sneaking off to? Doesn't a pressing issue about spontaneous singing ring a bell to them?
Laurenza: Let them go, Kuja. We can sort this between ourselves.
Lierlo: I don't think I've ever come across something quite like this before.
Ares: I know I haven't.
Rin: I wouldn't know where to begin to look for the cause of this.
Thorn: Me neither. It's all very strange.
Lierlo: Well, it seems to me that the best place to start looking for any information is in a book.
*A rhythmic drum beat starts up.*
Lierlo: I'm afraid I may have started something…
*The castle around them transforms into a vast library as Lierlo and Apathy start their song. They speak the words, rather than singing them, in a poetic manner.*
Lierlo: Wise I know I've always been
But such a predicament never seen
Apathy: To find our help we need to look
In that constant friend, the useful book
*Lierlo and Apathy gather a stack of books each and throw them down one at a time.*
Lierlo: Reference, directory, picture book, fiction
Apathy: A thesaurus to improve your diction
Lierlo: So may types of book to see
Apathy: Solutions may just simply be
L & A: In a book!
In a book!
*There is an instrumental section, where the two of them hold hands and dance round a shelf of books, before speaking the vocals once more.*
Lierlo: Suggestion, hypothesis, assumption, theory
Apathy: Such puzzlements could get very dreary
Lierlo: Whatever problems may abound
Apathy: The answer can always be found
L & A: In a book!
In a book!
*Kuja suddenly shouts over the song.*
Kuja: Stop it! Just stop it! I've had quite enough of this!
*The music cuts out and the castle returns to normal.*
Kitzie: Aww, but it's so cool when all the music and singing comes out like that. I like the way the castle changes too.
Kuja: Well, I'm glad someone's enjoying themselves, because frankly I'm becoming very tired of this very quickly.
Thorn: Well, I think everyone's had a song now, right? So maybe whatever's causing this will go away now.
Laurenza: I haven't... It's got to be me next.
Lierlo: Well, let's see if we can find a solution before it happens to you. I could look in here... *Picks up a large book and starts reading it.*
Apathy: Or there's always this one... *He examines a different book.*
Lahrne: It's gotta be some kinda spell... or maybe a monster! Is there something in the castle doing this to us?
Laurenza: Whatever it is, I'm sure we can handle it.
*A gentle flute tune pipes up.
Laurenza: When we all work together, there's no problem we can't solve… no enemy we can't face.
*They are all stood outside on Dalimoor Head, holding hands. Laurenza is in the centre. Images of past villains such as Levanté, Garin and Vallisto flash past them in the background as she begins to sing.*
Laurenza: I can see the world is turning
Hold on tight, come and follow me
Even though the sky is burning
Try my best, best that I can be.
*The pictures change to Arkun, Azinder and Gallinda.*
Laurenza: I don't know where time is going
But it's true; things don't come for free
More and more the night is slowing
It's so dark, dark and I can't see.
*As the song moves into the chorus, the enemies' faces vanish and are replaced with portraits of their friends. People such as Roreille and the Bo gang are seen. Everyone joins in the singing.*
Everyone: Believe
That's all we can ever do
With what we've all been through
I know
Don't grieve
We can make it together
If we stay strong forever
I know.
You see
When the walls are falling down
And the rivers run dry, won't cry
I see
Another road to go down
But my wings won't fly, I'll try.
*Fireworks now join the images in the background.*
Laurenza: Even when the clouds turn black
And the sunlight won't come back
To fight against what I despise
To keep me safe from all their lies
The strength I need is there when I look into your eyes.
*The rogue's gallery returns, this time showing the faces of Malaphaera, Nega-Thorn and Paige.*
Laurenza: Every day's a new tomorrow
Stay with faith, our hope is the key
Got to move, forget my sorrow
Keep the fight, fight and never flee.
*The images change to the Hallowed Knights, the Ringmaster and Celaselle.*
Laurenza: I believe a new beginning
Far away, I can see the light
In our hearts we're always winning
Standing strong, we will win the fight.
*Everyone sings in the chorus again. The faces show people such as Mina and Pope Galesse.*
Everyone: Believe
That's all we can ever do
With what we've all been through
I know
Don't grieve
We can make it together
If we stay strong forever
I know.
You see
When the walls are falling down
And the rivers run dry, won't cry
I see
Another road to go down
But my wings won't fly, I'll try.
*The final sequence shows fireworks and the images of people such as Mihako, Scorn and Adrienne.*
Laurenza: I can see the world is turning
The wheel of life is whirling
I don't know where it's gonna end
Even though the sky is burning
The colours are all twirling
But I can fly; fly with you, my friend.
*The song comes to a close and the castle returns to normal, except a wall has completely come down.*
Ares: Wow, I think that's everyone now, then.
Kuja: And look what's happened to the wall. This has got to stop, whatever it is that's doing this!
Kitzie: Come out come out, wherever you are.
Apathy: Your little game isn't fun anymore.
*The boy with the sock puppet slips into the room.*
Boy: It isn't?
Thorn: You?
Laurenza: What are you doing here?
Kuja: Didn't you cause us enough trouble back on Palamoor?
Kitzie: I didn't like being a toy!
Thorn: Did any of us?
Boy: *Looks down.* I'm sorry about that… I still want you to be my friends. Thorn told me to make friends you have to be nice to people, so that's what I did. I came here and tried to help you all...
Ares: By making today into a musical?
Boy: I thought it was going well...
Snarkins: Didn't you like it?
Kuja: You must be joking. If this is your idea of help, I'd hate to see your idea of harm.
Thorn: Kuja... *To the boy.* At least you tried. But look what happened. *Gestures to the missing wall.* Did you cause that?
Boy: I don't know...
Lierlo: The constant changing of the castle's structure to provide the backgrounds for the songs probably damaged it in some way.
Boy: I'm sorry... I use my powers without thinking sometimes. I only want friends... *Looks quite sad.*
Chiara: *Seems to feel sorry for him.* Don't you have a home? A family?
Boy: I haven't been home in a long time...
Snarkins: A very long time!
Ares: Where do you live?
Boy: The Alloni Carnival on Palamoor... Could you take me home?
Kuja: I don't think we owe you any favours.
Boy: *Looks quite pitiful.*
Thorn: *Looks like he feels sorry for him.* I think we should. The poor little guy looks so sad…
Lahrne: He probably misses his mummy... *Looks like he knows how that feels.*
Kuja: Okay, fine.
Chiara: You just give us the directions, little guy.
*They head out to The Destiny and set off for Palamoor.*
*They arrive there some time later and land where the boy directs them. The Alloni Carnival appears to have been abandoned for quite some time. The wooden stalls are weather-beaten and plagued with rot. The largest building, near the rear of the carnival, is dilapidated and badly fire-damaged. The paint is beginning to flake off once bright and exiting rides. They walk further into the dead carnival, images of forgotten joy surrounding them. An old merry-go-round stands to one side of the carnival, its faded horses now looking almost sad.*
Lierlo: *Looks around.* This is your home?
Apathy: It's rather... dead, isn't it?
Boy: Like I said, I haven't been here for a long time...
Laurenza: It's kind of sad to see a place like this in such ruin.
Thorn: Isn't it? I bet it was really great once...
Rin: *Has been rather quiet since they arrived.*
Chiara: Daddy...? Are you okay?
Rin: Fine, angel... Don't worry.
Thorn: Are you sure?
Rin: *Holds up a hand to say the topic is closed.* We should find this child's parents. Do you know where they are, young fellow?
Boy: *Says nothing.*
Thorn: *Looks at the boy.* You live here on your own?
Boy: *Doesn't answer him.* Come this way. *Leads them towards the large building.*
*They all follow him. The building is marked 'Hall of Mirrors.'*
Rin: *His eyes widen in fear.* The Hall of Mirrors...
**Flashback Time.**
*We see Rin, looking perhaps a few years younger, working behind the bar of a lively pub, cleaning glasses and chatted amiably to the customers. White-haired Shaya Carronet comes storming in, shoving the drunks aside, her watery blue eyes hard with anger. She slams her palms on the bar top. Rin looks less than pleased to see her.*
Rin: Shaya…
Shaya: You've got some nerve, Rin Bancroft! *Shouts at him.* You can't just throw me away like this, after all we've been through, and expect me to take it lying down!
*The other patrons of the bar go quiet as they watch Shaya make a scene.*
Rin: I do apologise, Shaya, but things just wouldn't work out between us.
Shaya: Why not? Everything was perfect! We were so happy together… I thought we could get married… Don't you care about me?
Rin: Of course I do, it's just… *Trails off.*
Shaya: Just what? There's someone else, isn't there? Is it that girl I saw you hanging around this morning?
Rin: No, that's not it at all. She doesn't mean anything to me.
Shaya: *Smiles in a strange way.* That is it, though, isn't it? The problem with us is because we both care about each other! You're only in this game for the superficial romance… the one night stand and the bit of fun… You have a problem with commitment, Rin Bancroft! *Gives him a poisonous glance before marching out.*
Rin: Shaya! *Chases after her, abandoning his post behind the bar.*
*He catches her up just outside.*
Rin: You must believe me when I say this is for the best. There are things that I don't understand about myself that frankly frighten me. I… I can't have you getting close to me in case I put you in danger.
Shaya: Here's an idea. Try finding out about yourself so you know for certain!
Rin: I don't think I want to. *Adjusts his glasses slightly.*
Shaya: You're nothing but a flirt and a coward, Rin Bancroft! I don't know why I ever wasted my time with you! *Slaps him hard and runs off, her head held high.*
Rin: *Touches his cheek where she slapped him, looking more thoughtful than hurt.*
*The scene fades to white and then we see inside the bar again. Rin is pouring drinks for the customers, but his attention is mainly focused on a young woman standing before him. She is a quite beautiful and dominant figure, with wavy, raven hair and sky blue eyes. She leans on the bar top and speaks in a gentle voice.*
Woman: You're going to have to tell Shiloh you have to knock off early tonight. You've got a very important engagement you can't afford to miss… *Strokes Rin's chin with a finger.*
Rin: You, my dear Winny, are a very bad influence. Don't you have some important business of your own to attend to?
Winny: *Waves a hand vaguely.* Oh, that can wait. You know you want to, Rinny.
Rin: Get thee behind me, temptress. *Grins and kisses her hand.*
*Shaya is watching them scathingly from a table in the corner. She's writing a letter and gripping her pen perhaps a little too tightly.*
*It whites out again and the next scene opens in a lively carnival, full of rides, stalls and many people enjoying themselves. Rin is stood outside a building marked 'Hall of Mirrors,' a small letter in his hands. He looks over the writing and we hear it read in Shaya's voice.*
Shaya: Dearest Rin. We need to talk about our relationship. Come meet me in the Hall of Mirrors at the Alloni Carnival. I'll be waiting for you! Forever yours, Shaya.
Rin: Seems like an odd place to have a rendezvous, but the woman is a mysterious creature indeed. *Goes inside.*
*Winny comes after him and watches him go in the Hall of Mirrors.*
Winny: Rinny?
*The Hall of Mirrors is a dark and gloomy building. Around Rin are many dusty mirrors, contorting his face into grotesque and unnatural shapes.*
Rin: *Shudders a little.* This place is supposed to be amusing?
Shaya: There you are, Rin Bancroft.
*Rin's many reflections are joined by those of Shaya's. It's difficult to tell which is the real her.*
Rin: Shaya… would you care to explain what this is all about?
Shaya: I thought it's time you had a proper look at yourself. If you really cared for me, you wouldn't shirk away from the truth like this. How you can be happier being in denial when it means you can never fall in love?
Rin: No, Shaya… I honestly believe it's better for us this way.
Shaya: Stop it! *Grabs him by the shoulders and shakes him, making his glasses slide from his face.* Just look at yourself! There's nothing wrong with you!
Rin: *Looks around at all the mirrors. His eyes fill with fear he catches a glimpse of a terrifying beast in each of the mirrors, where his own reflection should be.* No…! Get away! Don't let it get me!
Shaya: What are you talking about? There's nothing there! *She can only see Rin's reflection.*
Rin: It's right there! Shaya, you must get away from me! I won't let it harm you! *He stumbles back into one of the mirrors, cracking it. He screams a little*
Shaya: *Starts looking quite angry with him.* You're just being ridiculous!
*Winny has come in now and finds them.*
Winny: Rinny, what's wrong? I heard you scream…
Shaya: You…! *The sight of Winny seems to make her completely lose her temper.* You are the absolute limit, Rin Bancroft! After throwing me away and giving me all your excuses, you have the cheek to go running round with her! *Kicks several of the mirrors, shattering them.*
Rin: *Is completely terrified, as he can still see the monster in each splintered piece of the mirrors.* I've got to get out of here…!
Winny: I'll help you. *Takes Rin's arm and starts leading him out.*
Shaya: *With a frenzied look in her eyes.* No, he's not going anywhere! I won't let you take him from me…! *Grabs Rin's other arm and tugs it hard.*
*Rin is wrenched from Winny's grasp and falls to the ground hard. Shaya grabs a large chunk of broken mirror and plunges it violently into one of Rin's legs, dragging it down from top to bottom. Rin screams horribly and the flashback ends.*
*Back in the present day, Rin falls into a dead faint.*
Chiara: Daddy!
Thorn: Rin?
Lierlo: Is he okay?
Chiara: He's been acting funny ever since we got here. *Goes to him.* He looks in a bad way. I think I should take him home on The Fate. You guys go on ahead without us.
Laurenza: Okay, that sounds best.
Thorn: *Nods.* I hope he'll be okay.
Boy: The rest of you, come in please. *Goes inside.*
*The others follow.*
*Inside, most of the mirrors have large cracks in them and are scorched at the edges. Strangely, only the boy seems to be reflected in them.*
Laurenza: Are you alone, or are your parents here?
Boy: *Laughs a little.*
Kuja: What's so funny?
Snarkins: You're all so silly. Can't you see no one's here? There was a big fire and everyone died!
Ares: Ouch.
Thorn: Really? That's terrible!
Kitzie: So your mummy and daddy are dead?
Boy: Yeah, they've been dead for a long time... *His eyes darken.* ...And so have I...
Thorn: What…?
Lahrne: You're a ghost?
Lierlo: No, a ghost is a non-corporeal being. He's much too solid to be one.
Apathy: He must be some kind of malevolent spirit.
Ares: Or a zombie. I bet he's a zombie.
Kuja: Nah, not enough brain-eating.
Boy: Stop this silly talk, all of you! I won't be alone anymore, I won't! You're not getting away from me this time! *His sock again becomes a large, snake-like monster. It is reflected in the many mirrors around them, so the original is hard to spot.*
Laurenza: Don't do this... We've told you before! This isn't the way to make friends!
Thorn: It's true!
Boy: No! I helped you out, and now you're gonna pay me back by staying with me forever! *The gang are struck down by the snake's long tongue.*
Kitzie: Eeek!
Thorn: I don't think that's a very good way of paying someone back for something...
Kuja: And you certainly didn't help us! *Starts smashing the mirrors with blasts of Magick, trying to find the real boy.*
Laurenza: *Joins in the destruction with her sword.*
Thorn: I'll help you. *Draws the ManusBlade and helps them out.*
*All the mirrors are gone, leaving only the boy himself standing before them. The snake's tongue shoots out and wraps around Lahrne's neck, choking him.*
Lahrne: Da... daddy...!
Thorn: Lahrne!
Boy: Promise to stay with me or the boy dies...
Laurenza: Let him go!
Thorn: *Looks for a moment like he will attack the boy with the ManusBlade but he stops.* I... I can't hurt him. He's just a child...
Kitzie: Then I'll hurt him for you! I won't let him kill Lahrney! *Leaps at the boy, her eyes filled with rage, and slice the snake's tongue in half with her claws.*
*The snake releases Lahrne and hisses loudly, before shrinking back to its normal sock form. Kitzie's attack seems to have injured the boy, as he is bleeding badly from the hand under the sock. He starts to cry.*
Lierlo: How unusual...
Apathy: Is the sock... a part of the child?
Ares: Oh my...
Laurenza: *Goes to the boy and strokes his fringe from his eyes. She starts healing his hand.* Don't cry. We didn't mean to hurt you, as much as I'm sure you didn't mean to hurt Lahrne. You only want friends, right? You don't want to be alone anymore.
Boy: *Sniffles.* It's true... I'm sorry.
Laurenza: Stop this. It's not the way things should be done. Go to your parents... they're probably waiting for you.
Boy: I miss my mummy...
Laurenza: I'm sure she misses you too… *Holds him close for a moment.* You need to let this world go and move on to the next. *Looks at him briefly.* What's your name?
Boy: Rebus... *He smiles and slowly vanishes.*
Kuja: Wow... nice going, Laurenza.
Laurenza: All he wanted was someone to care about him.
Thorn: Poor kid... *Goes over to Lahrne.* Are you okay?
Lahrne: *Nods and clings to Thorn a little.*
Thorn: *Holds him close.*
*The building starts to crumble and fall apart around them.*
Kitzie: Uh oh, better get outta here!
Thorn: Let's go!
*They run out of there before the whole building comes down and head back to The Destiny.*
*They travel back to Dalimoor and arrive at the castle, to find everything is back to normal.*
Kuja: Well, I'm glad that's over.
Ares: Me too.
Laurenza: It's been quite a day.
Lierlo: It certainly has.
Kuja: Time for a celebratory cup of tea, I think.
Thorn: That sounds like a very good idea.
*Whilst the others go for a drink and a sit down, Tifanel comes up to Thorn and asks him for a small favour. A little while later, the two of them seek out Chiara. Tifanel is dressed in very fancy clothes and Thorn is nearby, with his fiddle at the ready.*
Tifanel: Chi, I know we're all probably sick of singing by now, but I'd like there to be one more song.
*Thorn starts playing a lively tune.*
Tifanel: *Takes Chiara's hand.* May I have this dance?
Chiara: Tif… *Smiles at him.*
*The two of them start dancing in an intimate way. Tifanel looks like his practice with Red paid off. He begins to sing.*
Tifanel: Well, I was stumblin' along
Guess I don't know my left from right
Wanderin' the dark felt so wrong
And I can't ever see the light.
*Tifanel dips Chiara low and leans in close to her.*
Tifanel: Lost I guess I've always been
'Round the girls I tend to lose my cool
Lady Love's the ruling Queen
Of the court - I'm just a simple fool.
*Bringing her back up again, he lifts her up and twirls her, as he moves into the chorus.*
Tifanel: And you keep me running two steps behind
But only one breath apart
And I'm just dancin' the tango of love
To the beat of your heart.
*The two of them dance in each other's arms once more.*
Tifanel: Well, I was tumblin' on home
Guess I'm tired of this lover's race
Hopin' your eyes will not roam
I feel 'em burning on my face.
*Tifanel throws Chiara up in the air. She lets out an excited scream before he catches her again.*
Tifanel: And you keep me running two steps behind
But only one breath apart
And I'm just dancin' the tango of love
To the beat of your heart.
*Tifanel breaks away from Chiara and starts performing dance-like moves with his sword.*
Tifanel: My fightin' skills are top class
But I guess I know nothin' of love
Experience I must amass
Can I get some help from above?
*He then returns to Chiara for the last chorus, placing his arms around her.*
Tifanel: And you keep me running two steps behind
But only one breath apart
And I'm just dancin' the tango of love
To the beat of your heart.
And you keep me running so far behind
I can't even cross the start
And I'm just dancin' the tango of love
I keep on dancin' the tango of love
I can't stop dancin' the tango of love
To the beat of your heart.
*Thorn finishes playing.*
Tifanel: Thanks Thorn.
Thorn: It's no problem.
Chiara: Oh Tif, I knew you had a dancer's spirit in you! That was really great!
Tifanel: Heh heh, I've been practising.
Chiara: Ohh, I can't stay mad at you. *Hugs him.* I guess we can go on dancing dates instead.
Tifanel: Heh heh… sure.
Thorn: Chiara, the queen of unusual dates.
Chiara: Oh, shush you. *Sticks out her tongue.*
*Kitzie comes running up to them, looking rather panicked.*
Kitzie: Come quick! Something bad has happened!
Thorn: Oh, what now?
Kitzie: The others are already there, come on!
*Kitzie takes them to the TV chamber, where the rest of the gang are already gathered. All of the Manjimau pups are lying scattered all over the carpet, dead.*
Thorn: *Gasps.* What happened?
Lierlo: They seem to have been murdered.
Apathy: Not one single method was used for all of them. Some of them have suffered blunt trauma, others have had their necks broken...
Kuja: Before any of you suggest it, it wasn't me.
Thorn: I wasn't thinking that.
Red: Then who was it?
Laurenza: I don't know...
Tifanel: You guys haven't been back long, so it'd be hard for one of ya to have done it... Red and me were busy dancin', though.
Chiara: It couldn't have been daddy. He's still out cold.
Ares: And I highly doubt it was you, Chiara.
Chiara: Thanks, best friend. Hmm... Maybe it wasn't one of us at all.
Laurenza: I suppose it's possible. I mean, Rebus got in here without any of us noticing... It might even have been him that did it.
Red: If it was him, he probably did it because they wouldn't be his friends.
Kuja: Heh heh...
Lahrne: Hey, look! A clue! *He picks up a small piece of paper from near one of the bodies. It has been neatly folded.*
Lierlo: Can I see? *Takes it from Lahrne and unfolds it. It is a note, written curly, gothic script.* There's something written here... It says, 'I know who did it. Remember my words to you, O Fated Child.'
Laurenza: Fated... child? Oh! The prophecy!
Kuja: What prophecy?
Red: Oh right. We didn't tell them, did we?
Laurenza: It was when Red and I went on that trip to Sol's Pass. We met a Djinn called Sarutamo or something and he made a prophecy about us. Actually, it did sound kind of important...
Kuja: Oh, very clever. Why not hold back on telling us something that could be of vital information, especially when lives might be at risk? *Gestures the Manjimau.*
Laurenza: Shut up, Kuja. A lot has been going on lately, so we must have just forgot, okay?
Thorn: Well, now would be as good a time as ever to tell us what it said.
Laurenza: I can't remember the exact words... but I might've written it down at the time... *Goes through her pockets and pulls out a piece of crumpled paper.* Oh, here we are... *Clears her throat and reads it.*
'Heed my words, O fated child,
Heavy weighed by destiny.
Forest, Flame, Light, Abyss,
In the vessel of valour's fist.
Paths have crossed and paths are lost,
In friends are foes and foes are friends.
Buried pasts will truths avoid,
Leave well alone what fears to feel.
Heed my words, O fated one,
Lest call the storm, five would be none.'
Kitzie: I don't get it.
Ares: Ooh. Cryptic.
Lierlo: Hmm... There's something about it that rings familiar, but I'm not sure what it is right now.
Apathy: We'll have to study it.
Kuja: Well, whatever it means, it doesn't sound good to me.
Ares: How can you tell?
Kuja: It sounds like a warning.
Chiara: 'Leave well alone what fears to feel... Lest call the storm...'
Tifanel: Yeah, that doesn't sound too cheery. So I guess trouble's on the way, huh?
Red: So what's new?
Thorn: *Leaves the room.* Trouble… I've had a feeling we might be seeing some more of that sometime soon…
*He begins singing softly to himself, using the same tune as his song before.*
Thorn: But now I'm thinking
Though I've turned this back round
Something's on the wind tonight
Now I'm seeing
A dark cloud's raining down
Maybe we're not all right. |
